The pictures from week 2 are HORRIBLE! I’d really rather forget this entire week…but the truth is, I can’t! I just uploaded the picture to the “progress” tab. I’m sure everyone will be able to tell that my eye was killing me. With my cornea inflamed it was super sensitive to light.
On another note, you’ll see that I decided to skip the t-shirt starting this week. My thought was that the t-shirt wouldn’t really show my progress from week to week. But its showing all my flaws and of course I don’t like that but…oh well. Here’s to bearing it all…the good, the bad AND the ugly!
Mom has been helping me take weekly pictures right before the weigh-in and I’ve decided to post them on the “PROGRESS” page at the top of the blog. I’ll do my best to update this page in a timely manner. I wonder if we’ll actually be able to see some difference from week to week
Today is weigh-in day for the Fitness Challenge. In addition to the initial weigh-in, we will also be conducting the initial interviews on camera and lots of pictures for the magazine and internet.
Each week we will weigh-in at 5:30 am on Wednesday’s. Due to the length of time needed for each contestant, we were given different times to show up. Mine was 6:40. I assumed it was AM since all other weigh-ins were AM. After waking up super early, taking a fresh shower, blow-drying my hair, straightening my hair and putting on make-up…I headed into town. I arrived 10 minutes early….but the joke was on me! I should have read the email a little closer. The weigh-ins and interviews are in the evening! It was PM! HaHa So in the evening I did it ALL again
When I got there I quickly found the staff from KC Fitness Magazine. There were 2 other contestants there already – one guy and one girl. I turned in the last couple picture from when I was younger so they could scan them as needed. They wanted a total of 5 pictures which would show my weight progression. I had 3 digital ones which could be emailed and then I had 2 others – one from when I was age 4 and another from my high school graduation party in 1999.
I am “TEAM WHITE”! Each person will have a different color t-shirt for pictures and videos – - its very similar to the NBC hit, The Biggest Loser. At least we don’t have to weigh-in and take pictures in our sports bras or no shirt for the guys! Honestly, I’m not happy with white – - I really wanted a color. The girl in front of me got KU blue and the guy I saw got red. White?! Its so ugly and boring. In addition, its HUGE on me. I have been wearing size L t-shirts and this is an XL. There are days that even my L shirts were getting big and I was getting excited to start wearing a size Medium. How am I ever going to feel comfortable in an XL? I know that it sounds like a dumb detail but its important. These pictures are going to be everywhere and even though its my “before” picture, I still wanted it to be CUTE! Hopefully mom can help me shrink them.
The chit-chat was nice and everyone was very friendly. There are 6 guys and 6 girls in the competition. There will be 1 guy winner and 1 girl winner. The competition is based on percent of weight lost. Having the guys and girls separate make it possible to have a girl winner! Two competitors are repeats – - they were in the inaugural competition which ended in Mid-December 2009. I know that the girl who is repeating, Jenni, is about 180lbs. We each have “weigh-in cards” that they write our weight on and then we turn back in after. I saw that one girl was about 186lbs. I immediately started hoping that there were heavier people than these 2. I did NOT want to be the heaviest girl in this competition. Since I only know 3 of the 6 weights, I’ll just have to wait until Tuesday when the website is updated to show all the other contestants. Its going to be a LONG 6 days!
You’re probably wondering how I did. The interview was painless. I was sure that they would try to get in our heads and make us emotional. It was not that way at all. Of all the questions that were asked on camera, I only remember the one about how I would react to bathing suit season this summer. The competition is ending at the end of April…just in time for spring break and summer! Pictures were good – - I think she took at least 40 different shots. I jut hope that a couple turn out good. Lastly, we got on the scale…I was hoping we’d do it first thing. I think it was close to 8:15pm when I finally got on the scale. Definitely not the best time of day to look at your weight but maybe it will make me look good next Wednesday morning
My starting weight is 217.2! That is minus shoes.
Lets see, what else did I learn today….
- One of the guy competitors is a Radio DJ and will weigh-in ON AIR during his show on Wednesday Nights.
- For marketing, there will be life-size cardboard cutouts of us displayed in the lobby of our gym. That could be scary to see!
- The winners will be featured on the COVER of the magazine for June/July 2010.
Its getting late and I have an early morning of boot camp tomorrow. I’m SO excited!

In October 2009, I weighed 249 pounds. By February, I'd lost 35, and I'm still going. Bikini season's coming soon... will I make my goal by then? Watch and find out... but hang on tight! It's going to be a bumpy ride with lots of "Nic's and Bruises"
