LARYNGITIS! Why does it find me EACH and every year? Well, this year was no different. It started as as a tickle in my throat and then some sinus pressure. I was sure it was “just another sinus infection” – - and that’s why I’m not a doctor. By the end of the day Saturday, my voice was completely gone. All day Sunday I could barely whisper. I sounded miserable but my body wasn’t as sick as my head/voice. I got a great nap on Sunday afternoon and tried to get to sleep early last night. This Wednesday is my first weigh-in and video in 3 weeks. I MUST have my voice back by then so I just kept whispering. Didn’t want to push it and lose my voice even more than I already had.
Luckily I woke up this morning and sounded better. Slowly my voice is starting to come back. My throat still hurts quite a bit from all the coughing over the weekend. And yes, my sinus’ are still running but those seemed less important with the loss of my voice!
Training this afternoon with Kevin was great! He always make working out fun and quickly reminds me of the “goal” when I start to get discouraged.
Since I didn’t work out yesterday, we did the workout that he had planned for Sunday. It was something that he wrote out for me on Friday and I could have one it alone BUT, he changed it up a bit and made it HARDER! Go figure
* Started with a 10 minute run at a speed of 5.0 and incline of 1.5
* Then I was on the elliptical for 20 minutes doing the “personal trainer”. I spent half of the time either going backwards or using my upper body. It was kind of weird to use arms when I know that my legs are stronger at moving my body. It definitely got my heart rate up!
* The StairMaster was next. I was only on for 5 minutes but I swear it was the LONGEST 5 minutes of my life. At a decent speed – - because Kevin was with me – - I walked sideways, then 2 stairs at a time, then the other side and back to 2 stairs at a time. The 2 stairs at a time was super challenging. I wanted to use my arms to help me up but I couldn’t.
* The ARC Trainer was next. Kevin set the program at “Fat Burning” for 10 minutes. The goal was to keep it at or above 70 RPM’s. It was my relaxing time before I hit the treadmill.
* The treadmill was last! Kevin said it was good for my body. A run at the end of my workout SHOCKED my body. Thank goodness! I need all the help I can get.
The treadmill at the end of my workout really kicks my butt! Its horrible! UGH - The workout was set to be 15 minutes total but I ended up need a couple more minutes. I was exhausted. The first 5 minutes was a RUN! The second 5 minutes was a walk up hill. The hill was set at 15.0 incline and speed of 2.5. My legs were on fire before I even started the hill walk. Lastly I was to run 5 BIG BERTHA’S! Sadly, the Big Bertha’s were the easiest part of this section. Is that because my body is getting better? I don’t know but I very much enjoy my heart rate being lower. Its so much easier to breathe!

Core work:
~ Elbow plank for 30 seconds. Rolling to a side plank for 30 seconds and back to elbow for another 30 seconds. Then rolling to the other side for a 30 second plank, then back to front elbow plank to finish for 10 seconds.
~ On back leg lifts – 20 times.
~ Dead animal crunches – exhaling on the way up and inhale on the way down – 20 times. Its amazing how important the breathing is. I used to hold my breathe all the time!
~ V-sit position for 50 roman twists with a medicine ball
In October 2009, I weighed 249 pounds. By February, I'd lost 35, and I'm still going. Bikini season's coming soon... will I make my goal by then? Watch and find out... but hang on tight! It's going to be a bumpy ride with lots of "Nic's and Bruises"
