Welcome to “Last Chance Workout Tuesday”! This theme has really stuck to Tuesdays and I really do my best to give it my all during my workouts. After both boot camp and training…I’m EXHAUSTED! My body hurts everywhere but I know that I didn’t leave anything in the tank. I gave it my all.
Boot camp was made up of different circuits. We started with a 12 lb heavy bar on our backs and did 5 squats followed by 2 alternating lunges. Then it was 4 squats and 2 more lunges. We continued to walk the length of the studio until we got to 1 squat and 2 lunges. Then we walked it out to the end of the room. Dropped the heavy bar and bear crawled to the other side. Yes, the bear crawl is literally walking on hands and toes, like a bear on all 4’s. We did this 3 times!
Next we got out an exercise ball and a set of small dumbbells – 3 lbs each. Sitting on the ball with feet together we did shoulder exercises. Keeping our arms outstretched we did lifts and curls and circles. My shoulders were BURNING after 2 rounds of these. Now, if we can find something similar that will work these crazy “bus driver arms”….you know, that flab that hangs down near your armpit. Or the skin that moves when you wave to people. UGH!
Personal training was at 2pm today and again, I got there a little early to start my run. I started struggling at the 6 – 7 minute mark, but I pushed through and hit 12 minutes. Maybe someday this crazy run will get easier? Maybe? I won’t hold my breathe but it would be nice!
Kevin wrote up a “Cross Fit” workout for today. It was similar to a circuit but a little more intense. The first part was to run a lap and a half on the track. Followed by 15 pull-ups and lastly 8 heavy cleans with a 50 lb barbell. There was no rest between activities and I did this 4 times each.
Next we headed to the treadmill…here I did 1 minute of walking at an incline of 2.0 and speed of 2.8, another minute of walking but this time with a 12 lb heavy bar above my head. Then 1 minute of running – speed increased to 5.0. And lastly I walked up a hill with a speed of 2.8 and incline of 15.0. I did these 4 minutes on the treadmill a total of 4 times each. It got really hard and I quickly remembered how much I HATE running. How my legs burn like crazy when walking up a 15.0 incline hill. I wanted to quit and even stepped off in the middle of the 2nd round. How in the world was I going to finish? I was exhausted and had NO energy left. Well, Kevin bribed me
If I didn’t quit for the rest of the series, then he would buy me a new sweatshirt. It worked! I finished but there was nothing easy about this workout.
I know my body is getting stronger and I know I can really push it to the extreme. I have more confidence in my abilities. When I think I “can’t”, I try to think that “you already have” and it pushes me to do more. I’ve done these things before and I can do them again.
I finished the workout by walking another 6 minutes at the speed of 2.8 and incline of 2.0. It was a good way to cool down and bring my heart rate down too.
Tomorrow is WEDNESDAY and that means weigh-in at 5:30am. I’m excited. Any loss will be nice but I’m hoping for 2 or maybe 3 lbs this week? We shall see…now its bed time for this tired girl!
In October 2009, I weighed 249 pounds. By February, I'd lost 35, and I'm still going. Bikini season's coming soon... will I make my goal by then? Watch and find out... but hang on tight! It's going to be a bumpy ride with lots of "Nic's and Bruises"
