Mondays have a whole new meaning for me! Its very encouraging and a nice feeling to look forward to Monday.
Boot camp started off with a bang and the rest of the day was just as intense. There were 8 of us this morning which was quite a large group. So we split into 2 groups of 4 and went to opposite ends of the studio. We did 10 deep squats and then sprinted to the opposite end of the room with a backwards run back to our starting end. Then it was 10 jumping lunges and sprinting again. The 3rd was 10 push ups and then another sprint.
It looked like organized chaos with us running towards each other and luckily, when we were running backwards, no one crashed into another.
Next, we kept the 3 exercises but this time we side shuffled down to the other end and back in between.
Lastly, it was the same 3 exercises but it was off-set with the crazy “karaoke” walk/run to each side. I’m not even going to try and explain it
It was quite the ab workout while running.
We did get a 1 minute break in between each of the running, shuffling and karaoke segments.
**I could have sworn that we did 4 exercises between all the cardio but for the life of me I can’t remember. So, I’ll just report on the 3 that I know for sure! **
At the end of boot camp we did a good 10 minutes of ab and core work. It was a welcomed relief to all the running and cardio.
Personal training with Kevin was at 1pm today. I got there about 12:40pm so that I could get a good warm-up in and start my run. I did the run with relative ease. I think I found the “runners high” that I’ve heard so much about. I ran and ran and ran some more. I ran for 13 minutes to be exact. This is the LONGEST in my life. I was so excited and proud of myself.
Then we hit the heavy weights. Heavy squats with the barbell on my back. I think we got up to 45 lbs on each side but it could have been more. By the end I could barely stand up with the weights on my back. Then we moved to chest presses which were 20 or 25 lb weights on each side. 35 lb pull downs were next. I did 3 sets of each of these and between 10 and 15 reps.
Lastly we did something new and somewhat frightening. I stood up on a weight bench and had an exercise ball behind me. I put my right toe on the ball and rolled it back, almost kneeling on it, and did a lunge. I did 10 on each side before switching sides. Problem is that I don’t fully trust my balance and I just knew I was going to fall – face forward into the rack of dumbbells in front of me. Kevin stood within arms reach and I focused on keeping my balance on the ball behind me. Somehow, I made it through a couple sets on each leg. My glutes were burning!
In October 2009, I weighed 249 pounds. By February, I'd lost 35, and I'm still going. Bikini season's coming soon... will I make my goal by then? Watch and find out... but hang on tight! It's going to be a bumpy ride with lots of "Nic's and Bruises"
